Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 1 cup
- Granulated sugar: 1 cup
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: ½ cup
- Baking powder: ½ teaspoon
- Salt: ¼ teaspoon
- Eggs: 2 large
- Melted butter: ½ cup
- Cream cheese, softened: 8 ounces
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Step 3: Add eggs and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix. Pour batter into prepared pan.
- Step 4: In a separate bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth. Add a ¼ cup of granulated sugar and mix until combined. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter.
- Step 5: Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the cream cheese mixture into the brownie batter to create a marbled effect.
- Step 6: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Let cool completely before cutting into bars.
Notes
- To prevent the bars from drying out, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- For a warm, gooey treat, microwave individual bars for 10-15 seconds before serving.
- These bars are delicious on their own, but a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce elevates them to dessert heaven.
- Chef's tip: For a richer chocolate flavor, bloom the cocoa powder by whisking it with hot water (about 2 tablespoons) before adding it to the dry ingredients.
