Delicious churro saltine toffee recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Saltine crackers, approximately 40
  • Butter, 1 cup (2 sticks)
  • Brown sugar, 1 cup, packed
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1 cup
  • Cinnamon, 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar, 1/4 cup
  • Vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
  2. Step 2: In a medium saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Continue to boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and turns a deeper caramel color. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Step 3: Immediately pour the caramel mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading with a spatula if necessary to ensure all crackers are covered.
  4. Step 4: Bake in the preheated oven for 5-6 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbly and evenly distributed.
  5. Step 5: Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel. Let stand for a minute or two until the chocolate chips are melted. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
  6. Step 6: In a small bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture and coarse sea salt over the melted chocolate. Let cool completely, then break into pieces to serve.

Notes

  • Store leftover churro saltine toffee in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week—hide it well!
  • If you want to soften the toffee slightly, microwave individual pieces for just a few seconds, but watch carefully to avoid melting.
  • Serve this delightful treat with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a warm cup of Mexican hot chocolate for an extra indulgent experience.
  • For a more intense cinnamon flavor, infuse your melted butter with a cinnamon stick for a few minutes before adding the brown sugar.
