Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- ¼ cup melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Whisk in the egg and melted butter.
- Step 2: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Step 3: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Step 4: Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Spread with melted butter, then sprinkle evenly with cinnamon, brown sugar, and chopped walnuts (if using).
- Step 5: Tightly roll the dough up from the long side into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal slices. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Step 6: Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush with remaining melted butter while still warm. Let cool slightly before serving.
