Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6 oz each)
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 slices cooked ham
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
- Step 2: Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound to 1/4-inch thickness. Season each breast with salt and pepper.
- Step 3: Place one slice of ham and one slice of Swiss cheese on top of each chicken breast. Fold chicken over the ham and cheese, and secure with toothpicks.
- Step 4: In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour (mixed with remaining salt and pepper), beaten eggs, and panko bread crumbs. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, then dip in egg, and finally coat with panko bread crumbs.
- Step 5: Place the breaded chicken breasts in the prepared baking dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and golden brown. Remove toothpicks before serving.
Notes
- Store leftover chicken cordon bleu in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat in a 350°F oven for 15-20 minutes to maintain crispiness, or microwave if you're short on time but expect a softer crust.
- Serve with a side of steamed asparagus or a light green salad for a complete and balanced meal.
- For extra flavor, try brushing the breaded chicken with melted butter before baking to achieve a richer, golden-brown crust.
