Delicious golden greek honey pie (melopita) recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ¾ cup honey
  • ½ cup milk (whole milk recommended)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch pie plate or springform pan.
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the olive oil, honey, milk, and eggs until well combined. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix. Stir in the cinnamon and walnuts (if using).
  3. Step 3: Pour the batter into the prepared pie plate and spread evenly.
  4. Step 4: Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. The top should be golden brown.
  5. Step 5: Let the pie cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving. It's delicious served warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Store leftover Melopita, tightly covered, at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • For a warm, gooey treat, reheat individual slices in the microwave for 15-20 seconds, or until heated through.
  • Serve a slice of this Golden Greek Honey Pie alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt for a delightful contrast in textures and temperatures.
  • To ensure a perfectly moist Melopita, don't overmix the batter; a few lumps are okay and contribute to a tender crumb.
