Tangy, savory beef meets crispy, buttery garlic bread! These Sloppy Joes are oven-baked perfection. Quick simmered filling packed onto a sturdy Italian loaf.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 large Italian or French Bread loaf
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat thoroughly.
  2. Step 2: Add the ketchup, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the cooked beef. Stir well and bring the mixture to a simmer for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
  3. Step 3: While the sloppy joe mixture simmers, slice the bread loaf lengthwise. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, half of the Parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt. Spread the garlic butter evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
  4. Step 4: Place the garlic bread halves face-up on a baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes, then switch the oven to broil and broil for 1-2 minutes until the edges are golden brown and fragrant (watch closely to prevent burning).
  5. Step 5: Spoon the warm sloppy joe mixture generously onto the two halves of the garlic bread. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese over the filling and slice into individual portions before serving immediately.

Notes

  • Store leftover sloppy joe mixture in an airtight container for up to 3 days and always keep it separate from the bread base to prevent sogginess.
  • Gently reheat the filling on the stovetop, adding a splash of water if needed, and always serve it on freshly toasted or broiled bread for the best crunch and texture.
  • Serve these savory sloppy joes with a simple, crisp green salad or a side of tangy dill pickles to cut through the richness.
  • For an extra layer of gooey texture, stir a quarter cup of shredded mozzarella cheese into the sloppy joe mixture just before spooning it onto the warm garlic bread.
