Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 8 slices turkey turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
- 1/2 cup diced yellow onion
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish (sugar-free, drained)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet, combine the ground beef and ground turkey, breaking the meat apart as it cooks until no pink remains. Drain off any excess grease thoroughly.
- Step 2: Return the drained meat to the skillet and add the diced yellow onion, cooking until softened (about 3-5 minutes). Stir in the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and pickle relish. Season generously with salt and pepper.
- Step 3: Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in 1.5 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and fully incorporated into the meat mixture. This creates the creamy base for the casserole.
- Step 4: Transfer the meat mixture evenly into a 9×13 inch casserole dish. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top, followed by the cooked and crumbled turkey beef bacon.
- Step 5: Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese topping is golden brown. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Store leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze individual portions for easy meal prep, thawing overnight before reheating.
- To reheat a large portion, cover the dish loosely with foil and bake at 350°F until warmed through, adding a splash of heavy cream if the base seems dry.
- For a true cheeseburger experience, serve generous slices topped with extra fresh dill pickles, a dollop of sugar-free mustard, and a crisp side salad.
- Ensure the combined ground beef and turkey are thoroughly drained of grease before adding the cream and cheese, as this step is crucial for preventing a watery casserole base.
