Ingredients
- Ground beef: 1.5 pounds
- Italian sausage: 1 pound
- Lasagna noodles: 1 box (oven-ready)
- Ricotta cheese: 15 ounces
- Mozzarella cheese: 3 cups, shredded
- Parmesan cheese: 1 cup, grated
- Marinara sauce: 48 ounces
- Egg: 1 large
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brown the ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Step 2: Stir in the marinara sauce to the meat mixture and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Step 3: In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- Step 4: Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer noodles (overlapping if necessary), ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.
- Step 5: Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese over the top. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Step 6: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For easier slicing, let the lasagna cool completely before refrigerating leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Reheat individual slices in the microwave with a splash of water to prevent drying, or bake covered in a low oven (325°F) until warmed through.
- Serve with a simple green salad and crusty bread to soak up all that delicious sauce; a sprinkle of fresh basil elevates the presentation.
- Chef's secret: Don't skip the simmering step; it allows the marinara to meld with the meat, creating a deeper, richer flavor!
