Ingredients
- Spaghetti: 1 pound
- Garlic bread loaf: 1 large
- Ground beef: 1 pound
- Marinara sauce: 24 ounces
- Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
- Garlic: 4 cloves, minced
- Onion: 1 medium, chopped
- Parmesan cheese: 1/2 cup, grated
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Hollow out the garlic bread loaf by cutting out a large rectangle from the top and removing the soft bread inside, creating a bowl shape. Reserve the removed bread for later use if desired (toasted croutons or garlic bread crumbs).
- Step 2: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain off any excess grease.
- Step 3: Add minced garlic and chopped onion to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.
- Step 4: Pour in the marinara sauce and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat and let simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Step 5: While the sauce simmers, cook the spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
- Step 6: Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the meat sauce and toss to combine. Spoon the spaghetti mixture into the hollowed-out garlic bread bowl. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until heated through and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For easier reheating, store leftover spaghetti separately from the garlic bread bowl to prevent sogginess.
- When reheating, cover the bread bowl with foil to prevent burning while the spaghetti warms through in the oven.
- Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh basil or parsley for a pop of color and fresh flavor.
- Don't overcook the spaghetti; al dente holds up best inside the bread bowl and prevents a mushy texture.
