Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 3 1/2 cups
- Granulated sugar: 1/2 cup
- Active dry yeast: 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Warm milk: 1 cup
- Unsalted butter, melted: 1/4 cup
- Eggs: 2 large
- Salt: 1 teaspoon
- Light brown sugar, packed: 1 cup
- Pecan halves: 1 1/2 cups
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and yeast. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Step 2: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Step 3: While the dough is rising, prepare the caramelized pecans. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in pecan halves.
- Step 4: Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan. Pour the caramelized pecan mixture into the prepared pan, spreading evenly.
- Step 5: Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Starting with the long edge, roll the dough up tightly and pinch the seam to seal.
- Step 6: Cut the dough into 12 equal slices. Place the slices cut-side up in the prepared pan, on top of the caramelized pecans. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool in the pan for a few minutes before inverting onto a serving platter.
Notes
- For longer storage, wrap cooled buns tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to a month, ensuring they stay deliciously fresh.
- To revive day-old sticky buns, microwave them for 15-20 seconds or gently warm in a low oven until soft and gooey.
- Serve these irresistible sticky buns warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
- To ensure even caramelization, stir the brown sugar mixture constantly while simmering, preventing any scorching and guaranteeing a perfect sticky base.
