Ingredients
- Garlic cloves: 8, minced
- Olive oil: 1/4 cup
- Butter: 2 tablespoons, unsalted
- Dried oregano: 1 teaspoon
- Dried basil: 1 teaspoon
- Red pepper flakes: 1/4 teaspoon (or more, to taste)
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
Instructions
- Step 1: In a small saucepan, combine the olive oil and butter over medium-low heat. Allow the butter to melt completely.
- Step 2: Add the minced garlic to the saucepan and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant and softened. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Step 3: Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.
- Step 4: Continue to cook the sauce over low heat for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally.
- Step 5: Remove from heat and let cool slightly before using. Brush generously onto pizza crust before adding toppings and baking. The sauce can also be drizzled over pizza after baking, if preferred.
Notes
- Store leftover garlic sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Gently warm refrigerated sauce in the microwave in short bursts, or in a pan on the stovetop over very low heat, stirring frequently.
- Try this garlicky goodness as a dipping sauce for breadsticks or roasted vegetables, not just on pizza!
- For a richer flavor, infuse the olive oil with the herbs and red pepper flakes over low heat for 10 minutes *before* adding the garlic.
